Queen Elizabeth II

There’s lots to celebrate at Buckingham Palace these days: Prince William will walk down the aisle in April and his cousin, Zara Phillips, just got engaged prior to the Christmas holiday. Now, Zara’s brother, Peter Phillips, is celebrating the birth of his first child.

The BBC reports that Phillips and his wife, Autumn, welcomed a baby girl on Wednesday (December 29). The 84-year-old Queen, who is now officially a great-grandmother, could not be happier.

“The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Autumn’s family have been informed and are delighted with the news,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

The newborn’s name has yet to be revealed, but weighed in at 8lbs. 8oz. She is also the first grandchild for Phillips’ mother, Princess Anne, and her former husband, Captain Mark Phillips.

Perhaps such wonderful news will take some of the pressure off of Wills and Kate from quickly siring the next royal grandbaby?
