Dominic West Joins Stylish New BBC2 Drama ‘The Hour’
Wire star Dominic West has been cast in BBC2's upcoming drama capturing a buzzing 1950s newsroom, the BBC reports.
The English actor will play the show's charming presenter Hector Madden in the six-part series The Hour. Hong Kong-born actress Romola Garai (Atonement, Emma) challenges the era's social standards of the time in portraying Bel Rowley, the spirited and hard-working boss. Brit Ben Whishaw (The Tempest, Bright Star) has been cast as the brash journalist Freddie Lyon.
"The combination of Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai and Dominic West gives us one of the most exciting casts for a British TV series in years," said Ben Stephenson, controller of drama commissioning.
"Our trio crackle with sexual frisson and will bring 1950s London to life with style and complexity," he added.
BBC vets Anton Lesser and Anna Chancellor are also set to star, according to Digital Spy.
Abi Morgan, the BAFTA award-winning writer behind Sex Traffic and White Girl, is at the helm of The Hour, which concentrates on a love triangle involving the three main characters while exploring an underlying murder mystery. It's slated to premiere early next year.
