The Entire ‘Sound of Music’ Cast Reunites on ‘Oprah’
The hills were alive on the set of The Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday (October 28), where the celebrated talk-show host gathered the original 1965 Sound of Music cast for the first time in 45 years. Dame Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and the rest of the "von Trapp" children — Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) – each shared their own memories about the five-time Oscar winning film.
The "Favorite Things" scene marked the first day of filming for the von Trapp kids and Turner fondly remembers that occasion, saying that it was Andrews' unforgettable kindness that really stands out for her. Hammond also chimed in with a memorable highlight about learning "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
"'Mary Poppins' hadn't come out, so we just thought she was a genius," he said of Andrews and the much-loved phrase made popular in the 1964 Disney movie.
In addition, The Daily Mail reports that Plummer used to call the beloved film "The Sound of Mucus" and snubbed many of the other previous reunions.
"There needed to be a cynic of some kind around to stop it from getting too mawkish," the 80-year-old Canadian actor explained.
Four of Captain Georg and Maria von Trapp's real great-grandchildren also attended the show and performed "Edelweiss" for the audience.
