Luther’ Star Idris Elba Teases Possible Luke Cage Movie

Idris Elba is keeping busy: the charismatic star of BBC AMERICA’s upcoming crime drama Luther has recently appeared in the hit film Takers and is set to appear in Kenneth Branagh‘s adaptation of the Marvel comic Thor. Elba tells Total Film that he’s been signed to “a picture deal” with Marvel and mulls over some of the comic book heroes he could play. “I wouldn’t mind having a crack at bringing Blade back, personally,” he says, adding, “But erm, there’s a couple of things there that they have… Luke Cage is…very interesting.”

Very interesting indeed. Could a film be in the works? The Marvel Database describes the Cage character as a incarcerated Harlem gang member who obtains “superhuman strength and durability” after undergoing a medical experiment.

Elba is also in talks to appear in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a sequel to the 2007 film. The new movie will again star Nicolas Cage in the title role. (Coincidentally, Nicolas, who was born as Nicolas Coppola, borrowed his surname from the Luke Cage comics. The circle is unbroken, people.)

Would you be interested in seeing Idris Elba play Luke Cage? Would you prefer seeing him as Blade?
