Industry Vet Perry Simon New General Manager at BBCA

There’s a new gunslinger in town: Perry Simon has been named General Manager for BBC Worldwide America’s Channels divisions, which means he’ll be in charge of BBC AMERICA, BBC AMERICA HD, Video on Demand, BBCAmerica.com, and future platforms in the U.S. The man has an absolutely fierce resume, rising up the executive ranks of NBC during its 1980-93 golden age, and developing and overseeing – well – basically everything I watched as an ’80s child in suburban St. Louis: The Cosby Show, Cheers, The Golden Girls, L.A. Law, Mad About You, and Frasier. And, of course, Seinfeld, the sitcom that has infused my life with sayings like “I can’t spare a square,” “You double-dipped the chip,” and “I’m full after the risotto.” So yeah, Perry Simon essentially helped raise me and make me into the pop-culture-spewing man I would become. How fitting that he’s my new boss.

While not British himself - he was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri - he once received inordinate hospitality in London for sharing the name of a dead but beloved EastEnders character. His Anglophilia stems from a high school love of Morrissey, whom he calls his "gateway drug" into British culture.
