Florence and the Machine Scores 4 MTV VMA Nominations

Congratulations to my girl Florence and the Machine, who racked up four MTV VMA nominations today. That’s nine shy of the record 13 nominations that Lady Gaga received. Clearly, a Gaga sweep is in the works, but two thumbs-up to MTV for recognizing the sparkly brilliance that is Florence Welch. It would be fabulous to see her perform at the VMAs and totally outclass Gaga.

Florence is up for Video of the Year, Best Rock Video, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography for “Dog Days Are Over,” which you might recognize from the Eat, Pray, Love trailer with Julia Roberts:

Other British VMA nominees include Mercury Prize-nominated folk band Mumford and Sons, who are up for Best Cinematography for their “Little Lion Man” video:

Muse‘s “Uprising” is up for Best Rock Video:

In the Breakthrough Video category, THREE of the four nominees are British, including UK electro artist Dan Black for his “Symphonies” video, Gorillaz for “Stylo,” and Coldplay for “Strawberry Swing.”
