Doctor Who at the Emmys: David Tennant On the Red Carpet (Video)

Lots of Doctor Who love at yesterday’s Emmys! Not only did the show get a shout-out during the telecast (more on that later), but David Tennant, a.k.a. the Tenth Doctor, turned up on the red carpet Sunday. He looked dapper as always, but some fans on Twitter thought he looked a little out-of-place. “Poor lost lad walked the red carpet alone,” beth_evers tweeted at me.

Tennant had been snubbed for a nomination for his title role in the TV adaptation of Hamlet, but his co-star, Patrick Stewart, was up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. Twitter fans were hoping that Stewart would win and at least give David a shout-out and some face time during the ceremony. However, the award went to David Strathairn for HBO’s Emmy juggernaut Temple Grandin. Pity.

Here’s a bit of David walking the red carpet:

While not British himself - he was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri - he once received inordinate hospitality in London for sharing the name of a dead but beloved EastEnders character. His Anglophilia stems from a high school love of Morrissey, whom he calls his "gateway drug" into British culture.
