John Barrowman On The New Doctor: “He’ll Be Brilliant”

  • John Barrowman spoke to The Stage about meeting the new Doctor Who, Matt Smith, who is taking over for David Tennant next spring. And he felt a little dirty, it seems: “I turned to the publicist I work with at the BBC and I said, ‘I just feel like I’ve had an affair – I feel like I’ve just cheated on David behind his back. Then I told David and he was like, ‘You turncoat.’ But Matt will be brilliant. Like anything, it’s different, it’s a new energy, he’s younger, he’ll bring a new twist to it.”
  • The Daily Telegraph lists “100 songs that defined the Noughties.”
  • Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones has apparently split from his 20-year-old girlfriend, Ekaterina Ivanova. The Daily Mail says, “Wood and Ekaterina Ivanova had a blazing row which ended in him throwing her clothes onto the street and moving out of the north London home they shared. The fight had been over Miss Ivanova’s simmering jealousy over plans by Wood to have a reunion dinner with his wife and family.”

While not British himself - he was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri - he once received inordinate hospitality in London for sharing the name of a dead but beloved EastEnders character. His Anglophilia stems from a high school love of Morrissey, whom he calls his "gateway drug" into British culture.
