  • Pete Doherty has avoided jail time so often it’s become a running joke. Well, however, a London judge wasn’t laughing when he sentenced the singer to 14 months in jail for violating his parole. BBC NEWS reports that “the singer had missed one appointment with his probation team and been late for another. The punishment means Doherty has been forced to postpone a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in April.” Doherty will likely only serve a month of his sentence, BBC NEWS adds. Gigwise notes that “Doherty previously spent time in jail for breaking into a flat owned by his former Libertines band mate Carl Barat. Doherty’s original six month sentence was reduced to two months on appeal.”

  • Fantastic Four star Ioan Gruffudd and actress Thandie Newton are in negotiations to play Tony Blair and Condoleezza Rice in Oliver Stone‘s George W. Bush biopic. Ioan is perfect to portray the meek ex-Prime Minister, but I can’t help but think they missed the mark with Thandie as Condi. (Guardian)

  • Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel, who once appeared on the UK soap Brookside, talks to The Sun about conquering Hollywood the second time around. After a stint on Broadway, Friel says, “I had such an awful experience that I just ran back home again, saying, ‘I’m not going there again, it terrifies me.’ “Now I’ve gone back to America and they’ve all said, ‘We were loving you, where did you go?'”

  • Clatterford star Sue Johnston went to Cardiff football matches to learn the local accent for Small Change, a play she’s doing. “I can listen to their accents. Cardiff is not an easy accent and Peter [Gill, the writer/director] is very precise about what he wants. Somehow there’s a lilt in the writing that makes you want to go more Welsh than he is and he clips you back. ‘Too Welsh,’ he says.” Aww, couldn’t she just watch Torchwood and listen to Ianto?
