Gabrielle has only had one top 40 hit in the States – 1993’s “Dreams” – but she’s had nine top 10s and two No. 1 hits in the UK. Her unique, mysterious eye patch and childlike voice made her one of Britain’s biggest stars in the ’90s. My favorite Gabrielle track is 2000’s “Should I Stay,” which is basically everything a break-up ballad should be. Her utter sincerity and vulnerability, beneath a swelling wave of strings, make it a bonafide tearjerker: “It seems I’ve grown attached/Though we’re not the perfect match/I just can’t explain/Should I stay, should I go?”

David Tennant and Sarah Parish‘s dance to this song was one of the best moments in Viva Blackpool.
