Long before Amy Winehouse was a glimmer in her mother’s bloodshot eye, Helen Shapiro was Britain’s top beehive-sporting Jewish pop idol. According to Wikipedia, Shapiro was only 14 whenthis song was recorded back in 1961, but her deep, rich voice and flirtatious face belied her years. Fun fact: The Beatles were hersupporting act on their first national tour. Nowthat’s a diva.
