John Inman, Mr. Humphries from “Are You Being Served?,” Has Died
One of Britain’s best-known TV comedians has died: John Inman, seen right here on BBC AMERICA as Mr. Humphries on Are You Being Served?, died in London at age 71 after a long battle with hepatitis A. The BBC has a lovely tribute, including quotes from co-stars Wendy Richard (Miss Shirley Brahms), Trevor Bannister (Mr. Lucas), Mike Berry (Mr. Spooner), and Mollie Sugden (Mrs. Slocombe). After his stint on AYBS?, he made a name for himself as a pantomime dame. Inman was openly gay and is survived by his life partner, Ron Lynch.
