America…Are You Ready for Ant and Dec?

Five-headed comedy duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are HUGE in the UK, but can they make it here in the States? Supposedly, network execs have been “courting” them for a while now, but finally they’ve found the right vehicle: they’ve signed a deal with ABC to host a reworking of a German gameshow, Wanna Bet?, according to Variety. The show will feature “celeb interviews and musical performances…mixed with segments featuring everyday people betting they can pull off bizarre or extraordinary stunts.” Exec producer Phil Gurin says, “Less than 24 hours after I got on the phone with Ant and Dec, they said, ‘We love it, this is the one.’ They like the tone of the show and what it can be. I was pinching myself, I can’t believe it.”

Ant and Dec are fun, charming, and British in a very palatable way (as opposed to say, Russell Brand). But many big names have tried and failed to resurrect that old TV staple, the variety show. Does ABC really think these are the guys to do it? If you’re not familiar with their work, check out some clips via YouTube:
